Keeping safe during a major incident

What you can do to keep yourself safe in the event of a major incident.

During a major incident it is important that you follow any instructions given by the emergency services or agencies such as the Environment Agency or United Utilities.

Although no one wants to think about being involved in an emergency, you should make yourself aware of any hazards local to your home or place of work which may affect you if an emergency situation arises.

The following websites will provide advice and guidance in the event of a major incident:

  • Flood Information Service – to check if you are at risk from flooding or to register for free flood warning alerts which will automatically if there is a flood warning in your area.
  • Gov UK – gives you easy access to government information and services. It uses simple language and presentation across all of its channels and works closely with government departments to bring information for the public all together in one place.
  • Greater Manchester Resilience Forum is a partnership of agencies from across the Greater Manchester with responsibility for coordinating and overseeing emergency planning.
